Media/Communications Planner

Summary
The role of the Media/Communications Planner is to be the day-to-day steward of media issues on assigned brands. To this end, the Media Planner is required to develop and maintain an intimate knowledge of their clients’ businesses and ensure that all client media requirements are executed in a timely and accurate manner. It is key for the Media Planner to understand client business needs and deliver on those objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the flow of client media-related issues based on changes in direction, goals, and budgets; must be capable of creating solutions and proactively resolving issues
  • Maintain budget control and ensure execution of media plans by authorizing approved media schedules and monitoring buys/schedules
  • Maintain good rapport with sales representatives and vendors to negotiate the most efficient rates possible and secure added value whenever possible
  • Contribute new media ideas to further grow the brand
  • Be accurate to instill and maintain client and internal agency confidence
  • Deliver POVs/position papers on key client issues and/or client opportunities

  • Ensuring client expectations are consistently met or exceeded
  • Accuracy and diligence in reporting and data verification
  • Troubleshoot and problem solve as appropriate
  • Demonstrate excellent attention to detail and follow-through skills
  • Complete assignments and/or agreements within deadlines
  • Apply strategic thinking to develop creative new ways to enhance Agency offerings

Education and Experience

  • Solid exposure and experience across multiple consumer media types, particularly offline media
  • Expertise in planning, buying and stewarding out-of-home and consumer print media campaigns
  • Working knowledge of media-related and other basic software packages (e.g., MRI, Scarborough, AdViews, Stradegy, IMS, Telmar)
  • Proficiency with Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Word a must
  • Experience with Mediaocean OX a plus
  • Strong presentation skills and effective writing ability important
  • Attention to detail and media-math knowledge essential
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Title commensurate with experience; 3 years’ minimum required
